Tommy Robredo’s 6-1 6-4 lose to Nadal had speed up his chase to the Shanghai Masters series.  Nadal has been  in fine form after the injury and gaining all that he can before he meets the jinx.  The quarters will have Rafael face Ivan Ljubicic.  But the event is loosing its charm faster than the progress of Nadal as many players , withdrew due to injuries. The players who had to face injury are  abdominal pains and joins Juan Martin del Potro, Andy Roddick , Tommy Haas & also Roger fedrer who had to leave due to fatigue while Andy Murray withdrew due to wrist injury. The series still holds the players like Tsonga, Nadal ,Feliciano Lopez and many more ! The sports fans shall still get a fair excitement to watch out for ! Best part world be if Nadal could conquer the world title soon in the tournaments to come !

“I am playing well,” said the Spaniard. “But I played two terrible games at the start of the second set so I have to improve in situations like this if I want to beat the top players.” This surely indicates Nadal’s zeal and hunger to get back to the top stop soon. Every step he takes at Shanghai will make him more prepared for the key games coming ahead.

When The Hockey News published its definitive The Top 100 NHL Players Of All-Time back in 1997, Nicklas Lidstrom was nowhere to be found. A lot has changed in the past dozen years.

Lidstrom has since collected four Cup rings, six Norris Trophies and nine first-team all-star selections (as well as one second-team berth). He won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP in 2002. Most recently, he became the first European defenseman – and just the eighth in league history – to collect 1,000 NHL points.
So, maybe it’s time to rewrite history a bit and find a spot for Lidstrom among the game’s all-time greats. At least, let’s see where the smooth Swedish blueliner fits among the best rearguards the NHL has ever seen. And, as the best blueliner the league has seen in the past 20 years, the Red Wings great deserves to be slotted somewhere in the No. 15-20 range, among the very best NHLers of all-time.

At last week’s Presidents Cup at Harding Park, Mickelson and Stricker led the U.S. to a 19 1/2-14 1/2 victory over the Internationals that wasn’t as close as the score might indicate.

After inexplicably uneven play in his first five Presidents Cups — and, for that matter, his five Ryder Cups — Woods at long last had found his comfort zone, and he carried the momentum into singles, waxing Y.E. Yang 6 and 5 and clinching the Cup with a birdie on the 13th hole. “We won, and that’s the name of the game, whether you go 0-5 or 5-0.” Woods said. Especially when you go 5-0.

Mickelson, 39, solidified his role as the Americans’ elder statesman by guiding, cajoling and inspiring to victory three partners who were in varying states of fragility. Stricker, meanwhile, had to worry about pleasing only one very important teammate, Tiger Woods, who had handpicked the mild-mannered Wisconsinite to be his wingman. Over the Cup’s first three days they rolled to a 4-0 record together.

Magnus Carlsen dominated the event with the performance of 3002 ELO rating, he won the event with a round to spare. In the final round, Carlsen defeated Dmitry Jakovenko of Russia to claim the title with clear 2.5 points ahead of the field. The top-ranked chess player, Vesselin Topalov finished second with 5.5 points.

Magnus Carlsen is expected to cross ELO 2800 and join the elite group (only four players) who have crossed 2800.

U.S. Men’s Volleyball Team will play Cuba in the gold medal match of the NORCECA Continental Championship on Saturday after sweeping Puerto Rico, 25-16, 25-23, 25-22 in Friday night’s semifinal in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

David Lee (Alpine, Calif.) led the U.S. scoring effort with 15 points on 13 kills, one block and one ace. His hitting percentage was 81.25 (13 of 16 with no faults). Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.) added 13 points on 11 kills and two blocks. He completed 11 of 18 kill attempts (61 percent) with one fault. Evan Patak (Pleasanton, Calif.) contributed eight points on seven kills and one block.

Carlo Ancelotti was requested to get ex-Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira for the nest January season.Chelsea is gonna miss many mid-field players due to African Nations Cup which is due to be help in the early next year. Ancelotti sees Vieira as an ideal cover for Michael Essien in mid-filed. He is seen in interaction with Vieira at inter-milan.

Seems like Vieira could be the first name on Ancelotti’s wish-list.
