SA allrounder Jackue Kallis has been ruled out of the series due to a rib fracture, so Amla will most probably get another chance to open with Smith.

Apart from Bangladesh, all the currently test playing nations will be involved in playing international cricket this month.

India and Sri Lanka have locked horns in a test match series. The first game of the series is currently in progress on a pitch at Ahmedabad that is a far cry from the one that was seen in the last game played there.

South Africa bundled India out in the very first session in that game in 2008 and went on to easily win the match. In this current game, the bowlers have nothing in it for them, and the batsmen are piling up the runs. At the time of writing, not even three days have been completed, and the game has seen four centuries.

Rahul Dravid

Even as the world went gaga over Sachin Tendulkar’s twin achievement this month – twenty years in international cricket and 17000 runs – there was one Indian cricketer who quietly moved on to another landmark in international cricket. Rahul Dravid completed 11000 runs in test cricket, to go with his near 11000 in ODIs amidst a much more lukewarm response from the fans and the media.

It is to Dravid’s credit that he has been able to hold his own despite the towering presence of Tendulkar in the line-up. For years, he has held the number three position in test matches as his own, only once giving it up to VVS Laxman in that epic series of 2001 against Australia. And he replied back with a 180 batting at number six.

For many, Tendulkar is the god of Indian cricket. However, it is Dravid, who has toiled manfully for the cause of Indian cricket, not refusing to be overawed by reputation or the lack of strokes in his repertoire. At one stage in his career, Dravid was termed as a test match batsman only, but came back strongly to make ODIs his own as well. Under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy, he selflessly kept wickets to add balance to the side, despite not being the first-choice wicket-keeper.

One of his best knocks was the match-winning double century against Australia at Adelaide. He followed it up in the second innings with an unbeaten half century that saw India through to a win. Another of his good innings was the 180 against Australia at Kolkata, when he batted through the day with VVS Laxman to overturn the result.

His best passage in test match cricket started in 1999 on the tour of New Zealand, when the rest of the Indian batsmen struggled to put bat to ball. Dravid smashed a couple of centuries in the same game at Hamilton. He also went on to then hit a century at Taupo in the ODIs to start a golden period that lasted for years. In 2008, he went through a form slump, and was sacked out of the ODI side, but came back strongly to get back his form and his place in the ODI side.

Australia restrecting New Zealand for a low score 206 showcased there dominance in the match as they have been doing in all tournament finals. And they retain the title for the second time with Watson showing great composure before hitting successive sixes off spinner Jeetan Patel to end the match and finish on 105 not out.

The Black Caps regretted the lapse by their stand-in captain, Daniel Vettori having been ruled out of the final with a hamstring strain, as Watson and White (62) put on 128 for the third wicket.

Shane Watson of Australia receives the man of the match award and Ricky Pointing awardes Man of the Series from Cricket South Africa’s CEO Gerald Majola in ICC Champions Trophy Final between Australia and New Zealand played at Supersport Park on October 5, 2009 in Centurion, South Africa.

ICC President David Morgan today termed the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 that has just concluded in Johannesburg as “a huge success”. He also appreciated the quality of cricket in the last 14 days proving that 50-over format can comfortably co-exist with the traditional five-day Test and the short 20-over formats.

ICC has successfully staged three maga events in a short period with the host country’s (Cricket South Africa) committed group of people. He also congratulated Ricky Ponting’s side for successfully defending the title. Congratulations are also due to New Zealand which played excellent cricket and despite missing top players due to injuries produced excellent performances to reach the final.

The war between the better lots in the cricketing world has come to an end. Despite the low scores the match was nail-biting and was always on the tip of the seats. Aussies proved they are still the team to beat. The boulders set by Shane Bond, controlled the Aussie aggression in the opening spells “but in the end it doesn’t even matter !” Aussies with the help of SR Watson & CL White could easily cover up the open patches and paved their to win the glory back from the underdog Kiwis.

The bowlers were exceptional in the Aussies side making kiwis fly till 200 in 50 overs .Aussies hop to clinch the Victory was pretty obvious . Hauritz 3-37, Lee 2-45 were the key player to mark the summit. Clearly Aussies’s 6 wicket win seems to dominate the Cricket in ICC Championship 2009.

The game at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg between Pakistan and Kiwi had seen more than a point gain in Kiwis basket. After hitting a 233 runs from 50 overs Pakistan couldn’t defend the score.

Though Kiwis fell on a equal interval of 1-22 (McCullum, 4.3 ov), 2-43 (Guptill, 9.1 ov), 3-71 (Redmond, 16.4 ov), 4-126 (Taylor, 29.5 ov), 5-230 (Vettori, 46.6 ov) the stable knock from GD Elliott ( 75/103) made Kiwis in the driver seat. Maintaining a run-rate of 4.89 per over , kiwis made it look  pretty and easy to chase the score put up by Pakistan. The match on 3 October 2009 was the 2nd semifinals of the ICC champions Trophy making the Aussies and Kiwis fight for the last trophy at Centurion.

Daniel Vettori   ( Kiwis Skipper) is pretty good confident after an easy win over Pakistan to face Aussies. Many skeptic over the finale of the ICC champions Trophy as the kiwis seem to be a big rock to climb and Aussies will have to do mare than just win the game. Vettori’s spin shall count at Centurion over the rocking willows of Aussie.

Monday’s game is what people look for, the performance vs luck either its luck of Aussies over Vettori’s spin or the underdogs raising over the performance of Skipper Pointing and Aussie boyz.
